An emerging trend in the hydrologic and environmental engineering communities is the investigation of water-related processes in watershed-scale observatories. These investigations make use of vast amounts of data produced by in-situ and remote sensing measurements in addition to the results obtained from numerical simulations. The automated and real-time extraction, storing and handling of these data in various stages of the processing, analysis, and dissemination require specialized tools and well-structured repositories, a.k.a data models.
