Everyday Mathematics is a scripted program adopted by districts in an attempt to boost standardized testing scores as well as provide their students with a comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts they will need to be successful in all avenues of their lives. I set out to determine how a new teacher learns to navigate curriculum in an environment where even the most experienced of mentors is inexperienced with new curriculum that must be implemented in the classroom. Research indicates some progress has been made in the Everyday Mathematics curriculum development, but there are still holes that indicate there will be gaps in student understanding after having completed the program. Golden School District implemented this program K--12 this year, with a fidelity to the program mandate rather than a staggered implementation system. This seems contradictory to the program's focus of a spiraling curriculum experience rather than concept mastery as encountered.Everyday Mathematics is one curriculum districts look at to provide students a mathematics education that asks them to do more ... provide for review, and if an educator takes a day for review, it is their responsibility to create that review curriculum or packet because Everyday Mathematics provides no such structure.
