Jephtha, Handel's last oratorio, was commenced on the 21st of January 1751 and finished on August 30 of the same year, after several interruptions caused by the composer's eye-disease and occaisional blindness. The words were written by Dr. Thomas Morell.Choral Worship Cantata (Miniature Score) George Frideric Handel ... Thus it is decided only by the conducting score that the two last-but-one notes of the voice are to be bb and not b. ... They are to be explained from Handel writing the bass first and having then in his mind other chords than those which he afterwards wrote to the bass. ... no longer proceeds J 3 J J 3 J but J_ j j_ J. On the piano I have retained the former motion, in consideration of the upper parts of the accompaniment.
