This is used when you know that certain areas of your photo are going to get more or less exposure than they require. Most digital cameras include controls to set exposure compensation between -3 to +3 stops of light in 1/3-stop ... It has no effect in Manual mode because the cameraa#39;s internal light meter has no control over aperture or shutter speed in Manual mode and turns all that control over to you.
