The Ritz-Galerkin approximation is worked out in some detail up to the Finite Element Method. Uniquely, both small and large structures are considered. Modal analysis of dynamic systems is emphasized. The text includes discussions of both theory and applications. Classical as well as contemporary approaches are presented.
