This manual describes the Icing Research Tunnel (IRT) at the NASA Lewis Research Center and provides information for users who wish to conduct experiments in this facility. The capabilities of the tunnel test section, main drive system, speed control system, and spray bars are described. Tunnel performance maps of liquid water content as a function of median volume droplet size is presented for two types of spray nozzles at test-section velocities ranging from 86.8 to 303.9 kn (100 to 350 mph). The facility support systems, which include heated air systems, steam and service air systems, an altitude exhaust system, a force balance system, and the model electrical power system, are described. The IRT is a closed-return atmospheric tunnel with a test section that is 6 ft high, 9 ft wide, and 20 ft long.
