I was a home technician for over twenty-five years, getting into homes anywhere from eight to twelve times each day. It was a perfect job for me as I love the work and I enjoy people. I had to go into so many homes that were collect calls. That is, charge a service call plus labor. So many of these calls were unnecessary in that the customer could have fixed the problem had they known how. It hurt me to charge some of the elderly that did not have that kind of money. Most people have an appliance they consider a complicated machine, and they are afraid to touch it. When I retired, I decided that it was time to help all these people and show them the shortcuts that we use and how not to be afraid of the machine.
