A thesis presented on addressing the modeling requirements for short circuit contributions from Type 3 wind turbine generators. This research can be used by electric utilities for transmission level protective relay coordinating using the ASPEN OneLiner software. This thesis will discuss four different short circuit modeling approaches which can be used for interconnected groups of Type 3 wind turbine generators and their implementation into a short circuit software model. These approaches' fault current outputs will be compared with the fault current results from the traditional full detail model approach. This research also sheds light on the protection practices the transmission utility can use to protect their transmission lines when interconnected with a wind turbine generating facility. The distance and differential schemes presented in this document are validated through the OneLiner software.A thesis presented on addressing the modeling requirements for short circuit contributions from Type 3 wind turbine generators.
