Recently, the call for higher power densities of power electronics converters and the advances in the power semi-conductor devices has diverted the interests of some industry specialists towards matrix converters. At this juncture, a major challenge ahead of the researchers is to demonstrate a performance of the matrix converter which is comparable to that of the conventional Voltage Source Inverters (VSI) at a comparable cost. This thesis addresses one of the issues, simplification of the control algorithm, which would help to take the matrix converter a step-ahead in its chase towards commercialization.in common collector configuration. The package and the schematic of this module are shown in Fig. 1.5. Two other manufacturers, Fuji and Mitsubishi/ PowerEx have come up with the integrated matrix converter modules using RB- IGBT.
