My dissertation focuses on the quality of human capital, foreign trade-induced learning by doing, and structural transformation. In a series of three papers, I investigate if the patterns of foreign direct investment are influenced by quality measures of human capital, explore how trade-induced components of learning by doing can affect foreign trade, and examine the liberalization of foreign trade and its consequence on the process of structural transformation.In 1995, TIMSS collected data for 4th and 8th graders.
