Reviews some recent progress in vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photochemistry and photophysics research covering the primary and secondary processes induced by the absorption of VUV photons. Upon absorption of a VUV photon, competition may take place between ionization, dissociative ionization, fluorescence, and neutral dissociation. The experimental techniques for probing these channels include: photoionization mass spectrometry, photoelectron spectroscopy, dispersed fluorescence detection, and various coincidence schemes.
